SZA has finally released her highly anticipated debut album Ctrl. It’s been a long time coming, but TDE’s first lady has released her first full length project & it was worth the wait.
SZA is the type of artist who is honest & straight-forward, giving us the nitty gritty on all of the things we really feel & think. Her style is raw & organic. It almost makes all of her music sound like underground stuff. SZA has been bumping around for a while now dropping gems & leaving people hungry for a completed work by her. She sets out in this album to establish herself & tell her stories in a conversational way that leave people saying, “Amen” & me too. Her lyrics stick out because they can be amusingly real, to the point that you have to laugh because it’s so true. I’m sure many women can relate to her love testimonies & attempts to communicate to men who seem deadset on not understanding. It’s the kind of true life music that either makes you feel better or want to go key somebody’s care. Her unique vocal style & ear for production make this album a good, solid work. The album features appearances by her bossman, Kendrick Lamar, James Fauntleroy, & Isaiah Rashad.
