Drake’s longtime friend Baka is the newest member of the OVO family.
During a recent event, Drizzy announced the rapper’s signing to OVO Sound. “When [he] got out of jail, there’s a lot of different paths that he could have took,” said the 6 God. “He decided to focus on music.”
To reward that focus, Drake handed him a pen to sign a contract with his label. “It’s an honor and a pleasure,” he added. “I just want to give this pen to my brother. I love you, G. Trust me. You’ve been holding it down for a long time.”
French Montana, who was also on hand for the celebration, cheered him on. “Hey, Baka,” he yelled. “Congratulations, my brother.”
Drake fans know Baka Not Nice from various song references. On “Know Yourself,” Drizzy rapped: “I might declare it a holiday as soon as Baka get back on the road.” He also added Baka references on “No Long Talk” and OB O’Brien’s “Schemin’ Up.”
Baka has also made appearances on Drake’s tracks. For example, his voice can be heard at the end of “From Time.” He also offers an outro on “Free Smoke” and backing vocals on “Gyalchester.” Plus, he has released solo cuts like “Live Up to My Name” and “Whip.”
