Bozoma Saints is Uber's New Chief Brand Officer

Bozoma Saint John 's unexpected exit from Apple Music has an official explanation: she got a new job. Ride-sharing company Uber announced on Tuesday it has hired Saint John as its new Chief Brand Officer.

According to the company, she'll be tasked with helping to build a "deeper, more meaningful connection" between Uber and its millions of customers. 

Saint John's resignation from Apple, where she served as head of global consumer marketing for Apple Music and iTunes, was only
recently confirmed , though further details have not been disclosed. Hired three years ago, she quickly rose through the ranks and a year ago took center stage at Apple's WWDC conference for a headline-grabbing appearance. In December, Saint John was named Billboard’s
2016 Women in Music Executive of the Year.

At Apple, she worked on such buzzworthy marketing efforts as Taylor Swift's workout ad and the Ava DuVernay-directed commercial featuring Mary J. Blige , Kerry Washington and
Taraji P. Henson . Apple Music has grown to 27 million paid subscribers during her time at the company, during which the service was launched in June 2015. "She's a force of nature. She walks it. She talks it. She knows what’s going on, whether it's fashion, music, sports," said Jimmy Iovine, who hired her, in a 2016 interview. 

Prior to joining Apple, Saint John spent three years as head of music and entertainment marketing at PepsiCo.
On Monday, Uber announced it had hired Harvard Business School professor Frances Frei as senior VP of leadership and strategy. 

The company said she'll work on several critical topics, including company strategy and planning, organizational design, management and leadership, and "supporting and developing a world-class leadership team," which could tie in with a hire as high-profile as Saint John's.
