ARIANA GRANDE will receive honorary citizenship of Manchester under a new city council scheme.
Grande, 23, will be recognised for organising the
One Love Manchester concert, which raised more than £3m for victims of the terror attack at her concert in the city on May 22. The pop star is the first to be granted Manchester citizenship, although council leader Sir Richard Leese told the BBC that many people would already consider Grande “an honorary Mancunian”.

Of the new scheme, Leese said: “This seems a fitting moment to update the way we recognise those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city. We’ve all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of May 22 – with love and courage rather than hatred and fear.”
At the request of Grande, a chorus of the most famous names in the music industry came together for the One Love Manchester concert, held on June 4. Sets by Katy Perry, Justin Bieber,
Robbie Williams, The Black Eyed Peas,
Miley Cyrus, Take That, Coldplay,
Little Mix, and a surprise performance by Liam Gallagher, all raised money for the We Love Manchester emergency fund. Grande, herself, performed more than 10 times at the show, as a solo act and alongside her fellow artists. She has since resumed her Dangerous Woman Tour in Europe.
